I had installed the expression studio by Microsoft today. The installation was fine and no error occurred. I am now unable to start design application. Rests of them are working fine. Whenever I tried to run design application, the splash screen pops up for few seconds then the following error appears and the program got closed.

expression design error

Microsoft Expression Design has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

I reinstall the studio again and nothing happen. The installation was just fine but design still refuses to run due to the same error.

My operating system is windows vista ultimate and system has 1 GB of ram with Intel Pentium 4 processor of 2.66 GHz.

Thanks for the contribution in solving my problem.

Hi there, Thony here,

There are two possible reasons for getting this error, one is a custom font installed in your system that can cause Microsoft Expression Design to crash, another reason could be an un-updated version of .net framework, and you may need to update it if needed, so what you should do it:

  1. Try deleting possible custom fonts you might have installed in your system that can cause Microsoft Expression Studio to crash unexpectedly. Some custom fonts out there can't be read properly by Microsoft Expression Studio and causes it to crash.
  2. Another is update your .NET framework or uninstall and reinstall it, there may be problems with your .NET framework that causes this error.

Hope this helps.

When you install a program, you should check the system requirements first then verify that your computer meets those requirements. Try downloading the free version of Microsoft Expression Design 4. It supports Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.x.

It requires 1 GHz or faster processor, 1 GB RAM, 2 GB free space, Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0, Microsoft Silverlight 4.0, Microsoft DirectX 9.0-compatible video card with 128 MB video RAM and Pixel Shader 3.0 support, and 1024 x 768 minimum screen resolution. Make sure these components are available on your computer. For the .NET Framework, download Microsoft .NET Framework 4.

This is the offline installer. For Silverlight, download and install the latest Microsoft Silverlight. The latest version at the moment is Silverlight 5. It supports Windows 7, Windows 8.x, and Windows 10. It requires 1.6 GHz or faster processor and 512 MB RAM. Note: Google Chrome is no longer supported because of browser limitations. When installing Silverlight, make sure you are using an administrator account.

It will not install on non-admin or limited user accounts. You should also check and verify that your video card has at least 128 MB video RAM and with Pixel Shader 3.0 support. This can be the cause of the problem.
