Quad-core-processors are faster than dual-core chips. And LG's Optimus 4x HD is the first quad-core phone of LG. And yes the 8 megapixel camera will give you good quality of photos because it has LED flash and aside from that there is a 1.3 megapixel camera in front.
Let me give you the features so you could compare it to Samsung Galaxy S III.
LG capacitive touchscreen is 4.7 inch and Samsung is 4.8 inch. Samsung does not used RGB matrix for display screen while Lg does. For the camera, both has 8 megapixel main camera but the difference is in the second camera. Samsung has a 1.9 megapixel camera in front while LG's is 1.3 megapixel. Both supports HSDPA and HSUPA but Samsung also supports LTE network and LG doesn't. Samsung got the latest version of bluetooth (v4.0) and LG still using the old version. Same memory of 16, 32 and 64 GB.
The LG's Optimus 4x HD will be released in the Philippines this June 2012 and the price is around $700-$750.

I was using a Lg Phones- LG cookie.. I love it because it was so nice to use. When it was lost i felt very bad. On your question may I suggest that LG Optimus and new release Samsung is just likely similar. An 8 megapixel camera is so great to produce a quality picture. When it comes on gaming, I can say yes- good for gaming because it has 4.7 inch LCD and Android OS 4.0 icecream sandwich with Optimus IU 3.0. Based on my source, LG Optimus is release in Philippines at Php 27,990.
