The best way to ensure to prevent your computer from being damaged by viruses and other malware is to be ready before the computer is attacked and not to wait before the computer is attacked and start getting ready. By that I mean that when you install the operating system on your computer, the first application to install should be the antivirus so that from that moment it will be guarding your system against any malware and viruses that may affect the computer as a result of installation of applications or accessing the internet. Some viruses can be so hard to remove when they invade your computer and then you install the antivirus thereafter hoping to remove them.

I’m not sure if there is a virus that is designed or able to damage hardware even with the latest threats discovered. If your computer sometimes would not start and the screen is just black, I don’t think a virus is responsible for this. That problem is purely technical.

If your computer does not start even after pressing the power button on the CPU, check if the LED power indicator on the CPU is activated or turned on. If it is turned off or not activated even after pressing the power button, check if the power cable is plugged in properly and securely to the power outlet. Also, check that the power outlet has indeed power.

Try plugging other appliance or device to the power outlet to verify if there is power. If there is power, check that the power cable is connected properly to the CPU. Try using a different power cable or change it from a working computer then see if it works.

If the LED power indicator is still dead, open the CPU case then see if the led power indicator on the motherboard is turned on or active. You can usually find it in the middle of the motherboard. If the LED power indicator on the motherboard is active but the CPU does not turn on, your problem is with the motherboard.

If the LED power indicator on the motherboard is dead even if the power cable is plugged in to the power, your problem might be with the power supply. If you don’t have much experience with hardware troubleshooting, might as well bring it to a computer repair shop to get it serviced.
