At first you must get a iplayer PVR manager and then you can use to browse and play almost any BBC iplayer program directly from VLC's playlist. You will get an automatically generated playlist for the program type you selected.
Valid program types are:
Open the playlist in the vlc GUI and you will see all of the available programs. Just click on one and it will start playing after a few seconds.
