The main strength of Excel is various kinds of mathematical calculations and automated data update by using formulas. There have a lot of formula to manage mathematical calculations.

The normal use of MS Excel is addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, exponential etc.

There have also more mathematical functions and formulas for solve more logical and hard mathematical terms.

Here following some mathematical formulas:

You should write every formula in formula bar under Home tab.

For Addition:

Just write cell numbers and use “+” symbol for sum any number.

Example : =A1+B1+C1  and then press enter.

For subtraction :

Just write cell numbers and use “-” symbol for sum any number.

Example : =A1-B1-C1  and then press enter.

For multiplication:

Just write cell numbers and use “*” symbol for sum any number.

Example : =A1*B1*C1  and then press enter.

For division:

Just write cell numbers and use “/” symbol for sum any number.

Example : =A1/B1/C1  and then press enter.

MS Excel comes with a lot of pre-made formulas for large computations. Here is a step by step instruction to get an AVERAGE.

1. Type all the numbers you need to compute.

2. Select the Cell where you want to display the average of those numbers.

3. Look for the " fx " button beside the Formula Bar(usually located just above the column labels)

4. On the "Insert Function" dialog box, look for the "Select a function" box and look for "AVERAGE". If it's not there, go to "Select a Category" > "Statistical" > "AVERAGE"

5. The next dialog box will ask you for the cells you want to compute, instead of typing the cell addresses, you can just HIGHLIGHT those cells and the dialog box will detect the cell addressess automatically. Once your done, click OK.

6. The average will be displayed on the selected cell. If you make any changes that you will make on the cells that contains your raw data, the Average cell will automatically be updated.

There are lots of other computations that you can choose from on the Insert a function window, just browse and you might find what you need. Hope this helps.. ♥

hello mr.stevens,

it is actually easy to use the excel calculator, you see.

just do the following operations:

1. Enter your input,

2. Select the block you want to have the output,

3. Just before the spreadsheet, you will find an icon written 'fx', click the box beside it,

4. In that box, type "=(the operation you need to be done)" then press enter.

for instance if you want the sum of the inputs you have given in A1, A2 & A3, in B3, then you will type there "=(A1+A2+A3)" and then press enter.

try to understand what you are exactly willing to do, because you will have to type the command in simple mathematical way, like if you want the average of A1, A2 &A3,then what you actually want is to divide their sum by 3, so the command will be "=((A1+A2+A3)/3).

when you are typing the commands, the related blocks, those having the inputs will get colored highlights, which indicates you are doing the right thing.

best wishes,
