I have some games that crash immediately after trying to run them. If I check the path of the faulty module, the DLL to find is not clear. I even tried to reinstall DirectX from completely different packages than I found myself, but none of them seem to contain this DLL. I had no problem a few months ago when I liked this game with an equivalent Windows installation. Some games report that d3d8.dll missing. How can I solve this problem?

You receive this error as a result of corrupted DirectX files or DirectX files that the sport does not wish to include. Download DirectX below and install it. I hope it helps!

The “d3d8.dll” file is a Microsoft Direct3D DLL for Microsoft DirectX 8. This system process gives support to games and is required by the computer to work properly. This file and other Microsoft DirectX files can be found in the following location:

C:\Windows\System32

If some of your games keep crashing, first thing to do is check the system requirements and verify that your computer meets those requirements. If this is not the case or the game is perfectly compatible, try updating your video card driver. See the following list of computer and video card manufacturers:

If the problem continues, try updating Microsoft DirectX. Try installing the latest Microsoft DirectX runtime for your operating system. See the following list for a possible download:

  • Microsoft DirectX 9.0c End-User Runtime – this Microsoft DirectX update is intended for Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows Server 2003. This downloads the web installer. If you want the offline installer, download this Microsoft DirectX 9.0c (June 10) on FileHippo.

  • Microsoft DirectX 10.1 – this version is included in Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 1.
  • Microsoft DirectX 11 – this update is available for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 with KB971512 installed. This version is included in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.
