Hello,

I am having trouble using Firefox because I get the following error message every time I attempted to open this browser. This error is very strange to me and did not familiar before. How can I resolve the error? Any idea would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Could not initialize the application’s security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application’s profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behavior when accessing security features.

Hey Mr. Dunn,

This error is encountered when a file is corrupted on your system.

Follow these steps:

  1. Open your profile folder:

At the top, click on the Firefox button, select  the Help menu and select Troubleshooting Information.

  1. Under the Application Basics section, click on Show Folder. A window containing your profile files will open.
  2. Now you should close the browser.
  3. In the window containing profile files, Click on the file named cert8.db.
  4. Press Delete.
  5. Restart Firefox.

This is likely to solve a minor glitch.

Either you will have to create a new profile:

  1. First exit Firefox.
  2. Press Start key (present beside the left Alt key) + R (For XP : click the Windows Start button and select Run) from keyboard. This should start off RUN.
  3. In the Run dialog box, type in:
    firefox.exe -p
  4. Click OK.

The Profile Manager window will open up. Select ‘Create Profile’ and make a new profile and save it.

Restart Firefox. The issue is solved.
