I tried downloading Fallout 76 yesterday when I got home so I can install it and play it later. Unfortunately, when the download is starting, it stopped and displayed the message “Fallout 76 failed to download due to an error”. I checked my internet connection to see if the problem is my internet but it is working fine.

Fallout 76 failed to download
Fallout 76 failed to download

I tried restarting my computer and restarted the download but nothing happens. The same error keeps appearing. Please help.

If you receive this error when downloading the game, check that your internet connection is working. Disconnect the network cable from the network port at the back of your CPU then plug it back in. If this doesn’t work, disconnect the other end of the cable from the Wi-Fi router then connect it back. If this doesn’t work, restart the router.

If the router has a power button, press it to turn it off then unplug it from the power for about ten to twenty seconds (10 – 20). Press any button on the router to drain any leftover power or to power cycle. After this, plug the router back to the power and turn it on.

If this doesn’t work, try to disable your antivirus or firewall temporarily then try downloading again. Try also launching the game and the launcher as admin. Open Windows Explorer then navigate to “C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda.net Launcher\games\Fallout76”. Locate the game exe file, right-click it, and select “Properties”.

In the “Properties” dialog, go to “Compatibility” tab then under “Privilege Level” section at the bottom, check “Run this program as an administrator” and then click “OK”. After this, navigate back to “C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda.net Launcher” then locate the launcher exe file called “BethesdaNetLauncher”. Right-click it and select “Properties”.

In the “Properties” dialog, go to “Compatibility” tab then under “Privilege Level” section at the bottom, check “Run this program as an administrator” and then click “OK”.
