Hello Bobbye,

The error you are getting occurs if there is a problem with either one of the following registry subkeys:

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerUser Shell Folders
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerUser Shell Folders

To fix the issue, you will need to use the FixIT that is found at the following link:

You are encountering this problem for trying to install and remove any of the products listed in the “Applies To” section. By following two method you can solve this problem.

  • Solution 1:

To fix this problem automatically you need to download this file and follow the steps in the fix it wizard.

  • Solution 2:

At first you need to find out the Registry key. Here see, how the version of Microsoft Office displayed in Registry:

Office 2010         14.0

Office 2007         12.0

Office 2003         11.0

Office XP             10.0

Office 2000         9.0

Office 97              8.0

Next follow these process:

1.Go to Start Menu >> Select “Run” >> type “regedit.exe” >> press “OK”.

2. Now click on the registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftOffice

3. In the left panel you can see older Microsoft Office register key without any product associated with them. For example see this picture:

4. Right –click on the folder >> click on “Delete”.

5. Exit Registry Editor >> restart your PC.
