Facebook giving error message RPC:S-3

I am using Samsung Optimus L9 and recently synced all my apps. Every app is working fine except Facebook, which on open indicates an error message of RPC:S-3. FB was reinstalled in my phone but that is an older version and now it cannot be updated. Please can anyone highlight this issue and help me resolve it. Thanks.

download the latest version that you can find

install the app

log in to the facebook app

now update the app via Play Store
