Hi,
Whenever I start up Microsoft Office Word or Excel on my computer, I get the following error message:
Compile error in hidden module
I have the option to click on ok and once I do so I can proceed and work in the Excel file.
This is a bit irritating since it pops up whenever I open any Word or Excel file.
Is there a solution to this error?
And what exactly does it mean?
It was not there before. I did a repair of my Microsoft Office 2003 installation but this did not help.
I still have the error message.
Please help.
Thanks in advance.

Excel compile error in hidden module
Hi Brice here,
The problem you are having is caused by either your Microsoft Office Excel start up folder or Microsoft Office Word start up folder that contains both the file Pdfmaker.dot and Pdfmaker.xl. To fix this problem:
-
Go to Start and click Search then Files and folders.
-
In there search the files Pdfmaker.dot and Pdfmaker.xl.
-
In the Lock in box, click the disc drive where Windows is installed, normally C: and then click Search Now.
-
In the search result window, right click the file for each file that is found and then click Cut.
-
Paste the files in My Documents.
Excel compile error in hidden module
Hello justin,
This kind of compile error in hidden module actually happens in three files.
These are AutoExec, DistMon, AutoExexNew.
This files corrupts the ComctlLib.exd file so this happens. Now to overcome this you first should scan your PC using an antivirus, probably you will get few malware.
First delete those, now uncheck all the add-ins then go to this location: C:Documents and Settings<username>Application DataMicrosoftExcelXLSTART.
Move everything from that directory and close excel. Restart the excel.
Thank you,
