Error Checking Could Not Be Performed

Hi,

I was about to perform an Error-Checking on my hard disk Drive C: I go to Local Disk Properties then click on the Tools tab and choose Error-checking. I choose the automatically fix system errors and the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. Then an alert box appeared instantly and say's, I could not perform disk checking because it needs exclusive access to some Windows file on the disk.

Check Disk error in C:

The disk check could not be performed because the disk check utility needs exclusive access to some Windows files on the disk. These files can be accessed by restarting Windows. Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?

And that I can only access those files if I restart my computer. And asked me if I want to perform the task the next time I restarted my computer. So I hit the start menu then shut my computer off to perform the task, but after restarting the task did not appear so I have to repeat the same procedure again. It just doesn’t automatically appear on my window after a restart. An alert box with Windows File Protection appears stating that I need to insert Windows XP CD,

whenever it appears on my screen I cannot perform a Ctrl+Print Screen to make a screenshot of it.

The Paste button on Paint is grayed out and disabled.

I run the windows command prompt and try the sfc /scannow command. After entering the command nothing happens and the cursor just go to the next line and waiting for another command to enter.

What is the meaning of these errors? My system is running real slow, and there are some fixes that needed an execution.

Please kindly help me.

Cheers to all.

  • OK. i am sending you some use full tips please locate them before running any disk check.
  • Check wherever all other programs are being closed before performing the task of DISK CHECK.
  • Check your drive on which you want to perform DISK CHECK have a 25% free space approximately.
  • Go to your command prompt and apply this command " CHKDSK " it will first check you disk where it contains errors or not.
  • Check for system restores point if the problem is still there. You can perform this operation very easily. And i hope you know that also. You can use this like to access it also:  c:windowssystemrestorerstrui.exe
  • Check that the files and folders are not virus/Trojan/worms infected you can check them by installing a antivirus and for performing a scan.

I hope this will solve that problem.
