There can be many reasons which cause the DVD drive to malfunction. Please follow these instructions in order to solve the problem. The problem might just be due to the connections of your DVD drive.

1. Check all the cables of the DVD drive.

2. Check if the cables are not interchanged or loose. This often is the main reason which leads to these problems you are facing.

3. If this does not help then try replacing the DVD drive as it could be a problem with you DVD drive.

4. Another reason can be that the CD laser might be dead.

5. Also install the DVD drive on another computer and try to burn the DVD. If the problem persists then replace the DVD drive.

Hope this helps.Best of luck.

If you are using a DVD writer that is quite old already then this is more likely to happen. This problem is very common to aged optical drives. If you want to fix this problem, just replace your DVD writer with a new one. Or, if you don’t want to replace it yet and you can still manage to use it even if it gives you a headache sometimes, you can do some things that can temporarily fix the problem.

If your DVD writer sometimes can not recognize a disc that you loaded, try cleaning its lens using any lens cleaner. You can use the lens cleaner for VCD or DVD player. If your DVD writer’s tray sometimes doesn’t close properly or doesn’t close at all, just try pressing the button again and again until it closes.
