I have a Windows 2003 server and iSCSI target server both in the same host.

Does the traffic in iSCSI between VMWare users stay within or does it go somewhere and then go back in?

Does the traffic in iSCSI between VMWare users stay within or Not

 

On that computer that you are using the two server applications on, in case you have at least 2 vNICs for every virtual machine that you have installed on it, then it should be set up that one of them is connected the vmnetwork vswitch, and the other one is connected to the iSCSI vswitch.

Once you have set them above, then virtual machine will be the one to decide for itself which of the vNICs to use instead of having to check the ESXi. So what you will need to do is check the route table in the Virtual Machine and see if it has been configured correctly.
