Today I was searching options to extend my Wi-Fi connection across floors in my house. I ended up with two main terms which I am struggling to understand. What is a the main difference between a WI-FI router and a WI-FI repeater. Given my initial problem which one is better suited for my needs?

The Wi Fi repeater or extender is used mainly for extending wireless signals over large area. A wireless repeater mainly takes a signal from wireless router and rebroadcasts it to create another network. If the distance is too long and a direct connection has to be established then wireless repeater is the best option. It is used as a bridge.

You want to extend wireless connection across the floors of your home then Wireless repeater is best suitable option for you. It will take signal from your existing wireless network and extends to create the another network in that area.
