Dear all,

I am considering to buy a new TV. Can anyone enlighten me on the difference between LED and OLED? Also, I want to know the difference the new curved screens and the flat screens. Do curved screens really influence the quality of images and provide more detailed resolution? Can a curved screen increase functionality?

First of all, LED TVs are available in all different sizes, ranging from 2 inches to 90 inches. OLED only comes in one size – 55 inches.

Secondly, OLED, because it is brand new, is more expensive than LED. They're currently around two or three times the cost of LED TVs, or around $9000-$15,000 each.

Third, OLED screens are brighter than LED, because they generate their own light, while LEDs require florescent backlights. Also, the picture quality suffers if you sit too far to one side of an LED, or if the TV is too high or too low in relation to your eyes. OLED TVs don't have those issues.

Fourth, when you're watching TV or movies, OLEDs only light up the parts of the screen that need light, making it less efficient than an LED, which lights up the entire screen at once.

Fifth, OLEDs have better picture contrast. LEDs have difficulty showing deep black colors, but some sets do offer automated dimming to help with the issue. OLEDs can turn off screen parts that are black in order to show vibrant colors more.

Sixth, in terms of lifespan, LEDs have a longer lifespan than OLEDs, because OLED TVs use a compound to create the color blue that has a shorter lifespan. As a result, once the blue goes out, so do the other colors.

Overall winner is the OLED, but as I've said, they are way more expensive and only come in one size.

Now for flat screen vs. curved screen TVs:

Curved screen TVs have better immersion, making it seem like you're drawn in deeper into what you are watching than with a flat screen. Also, the sense of depth is enhanced with curved screens, making the images seem more like they're in 3D than with flat screens. You also feel as if you're getting a wider field of view with curved screen than flat screen. Contrast is also better with curved screen than with flat.

Overall, curved screens are better than flat screens.

Hello,

The major difference between LED and OLED is picture quality. OLED is substantially better because its technology allows for better resolution and color. Curved screens fool the human eye by creating the illusion of more depth. Curved screens are problematic because images on curved screens only appear normal when viewed from the proper angle. There are no other major differences between curved and flat. The costs of the early adoption of technology should also be considered. Often the prices of such things will drop dramatically within a year.
