Hi,

I am using Ubuntu. But some of my friends told me that centos is best and user friendly. Can anyone tell what is the difference between centos vs Ubuntu and which one is best to use?

Thanks.

Hello Madison,

The most primary difference between CentOS and Ubuntu is that Centos is Red Hat oriented while Ubuntu is Debian based. CentOS is most useful for Enterprise level purposes as some packages required for maintaining a server like cPanel does not run well on Ubuntu. While on the other hand, Ubuntu is more of an easy to use Desktop OS and serves as more of a starter to learning Linux environment.

Hence, basically to sum it up use CentOS for business based work and Ubuntu for PC based work. You can read an indepth analysis of the differences between CentOS and Ubuntu in the Ubuntu forums. Cheers.

Hello!

CentOS and Ubuntu are both useful operating systems. I think Ubuntu is the best & very wise to use as a desktop OS. On the other hand, CentOS is useful for enterprise purposes. Ubuntu doesn’t support cPanel. So you have to define first what is your purpose of using.

Once you have identified that, I think you will be able to determine what OS you will be using.

Thanks!
