After setting the serial cable and connecting it to the pc, open a terminal program which is set to 115200 baud, 8 bits, with no parity, 1 stop bit.
You can use PuTTY Settings, Hyperterminal, teraterm, etc.
Add the following to the terminal.
$ cu -l /dev/tty00 -s 115200 Â Â Â Â Â # common on BSD-like OS
$ screen /dev/tty.usbserial0 115200 Â Â # useful on MacOS with USB serial
$ minicom
    Â
This will pop up a message indicating if the software was successfully installed or not.
