Hi,

I am currently using Windows XP Pro SP3 machine and try to install the WHS Vail Connector Software. I downloaded this software from the website and run the Connector installer. The installation process was going well but after some time I received an unexpected error message. Help me to resolve this error message.

Thanks in advance.

Installation of Windows Server Code

Error: Installation of Windows Server Code Name “Vail” Connector is canceled The Windows Windows Server Code Name”Vail” Server Connector Software has encountered an unexpected error and needs to close. Any changes made to this computer will be undone.

However, if Microsoft.NET Framework was installed as part of the installation, it will not be uninstalled. You can install the Connector Software again without undoing this change.

If you are running a version 1 connector you will have to un-install it. Don't expect to re-install to that server until you get rid of the 2011 connector though. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Get the 2011 server up running first. I would recommend creating a user as well. Then in a web browser navigate to http://yourservername/connect.

Much like version 1 of W H S you will download the connector file to run on your computer that you want to connect to W H S 2011.

* Run the downloaded file and it will attempt to locate your 2011 server.

* 30 Minutes or More? Wait…

*  The process on my machine was around 5 minutes. That includes zapping all of these dang screen shots.

*  The process is also much cleaner, faster and better than the old one.

The one thing I found that I didn't like is the pad and Dashboard icons are not placed on the desktop. I'm so used to have version 1 that I want to see them on the desktop.

Trying to reconnect to your V 1 server will not work. At least it didn't for me. You can still get to your shares on the version 1 server. It's server after all. You just can't back up the PC to it.
