Blackberry with OS6 on Bell Network can’t open Text Messages

Hello,

Today, while I was trying to open 'Text Messages', this message appeared:

"Uncaught exception: String index out of range: 31".

What does it mean and how can I fix it? I also attempted to take out the battery for a while but this yielded no positive results. Do I have to reinstall my OS?

By the way, I'm running OS6 v6.0.0.534 on Bell Network.

Thanks in advance.

Hi! It's always a good idea, if there is a new version of a particular software, to upgrade to the newer version, especially if you're seeing a lot of errors on your current software. Try to upgrade to Blackberry's latest OS 6.1. To do that, follow the steps below:

  1. Connect the device to your pc and launch BB Desktop Software
  2. Select Update on the Device menu
  3. On the lower left corner of the dialog box, select View Other Versions
  4. Click on Install next; your current version should be selected
  5. For Back up Service Data, uncheck the box
  6. Next, click Install Update

This should upgrade your software to OS 6.1. Hope that helps!

If you keep receiving this error, try factory resetting your phone. Since you have a BlackBerry Smartphone, the easiest way to factory reset it is with the BlackBerry Desktop Software. The BlackBerry software is in two versions: the BlackBerry Desktop Software and the BlackBerry Link. If you have a BlackBerry Smartphone that runs on BlackBerry 7.1 OS or earlier, you need to download the BlackBerry Desktop Software.

It supports Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. Windows 8.x and Windows 10 are not supported. For Mac users, you can download the BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac. If your BlackBerry Smartphone runs on BlackBerry 10 OS, you need to download the BlackBerry Link. It supports Windows XP Service Pack 3, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.x. Windows 10 is not supported.

It requires Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 so make sure to install it first before installing BlackBerry Link. Now, once the BlackBerry Desktop Software is installed, connect your BlackBerry phone to your computer then start the BlackBerry Desktop Software and then click the question mark (?) located on the top right corner of the screen. Next, click “Support Resources” then “Support Tools”.

After this, under “Reset to Factory Settings”, click the “Reset” button.
