Solutions for error 1402 for both uninstall and install cases are the same, based on the Autodesk Support website. You will need to access the registry editor for this to be resolved. You would need to go to Start>Run then type regedit.exe and press enter for Windows XP, while for Windows Vista and Windows 7, you would go to Start> then type on the "Search programs and files" bar regedit.exe.

Once the registry editor is open, locate the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionInstallerUserDataS-1-5-18Components" directory, right click on the "Components" folder then click on "Permissions". Go and click on the "Advanced" button, and under the "Owner" tab, go to the "Change owner to:" selection box, and select the user group "Administrators" then click "Apply".

After that, select the check box "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" and click "Apply". Afterwards, click on the "Permissions tab", then click on the check box option "Replace all child objects Permissions with inheritable permissions from this object" then select apply.

Please take note that actual wording may differ depending on the operating system you are using.
