I don't hear any sound when I turn up the volume on my laptop (Toshiba satellite).  However, when I plug  in my headset, I hear the audio working fine.  What do I need to do to fix the sound?

Hi Mr. Sean Bowman

There Are Steps To Find how To Fix Your Sound Problem, Open The Sound Panel of Windows , Look For A round Icon its Like A Speaker Icon ,Turn the sound all the way up and ensure that the Mute box is unchecked. If its Not Working Proceed to this Procedure

Click Start. —>Click "Control Panel". —>Double click "System". —->Click "Hardware" —> Open the device manager, then double click on "Sound, Video and Game Controllers." Right click "Audio Codecs," and click "Properties." If working properly. If its Not Working Again Download Toshiba Drivers.

If All Techniques is Not Working To You I guess It have a Speaker Problem and you need a Laptop Technician To Repair It.
