3rd party firmware for Linksys WRT1900AC

The Linksys WRT1900AC will accept a 3rd party Firmware. Is there any reason why should I use a 3rd party firmware over the one I can get from Linksys? What are the advantages of doing so? Is there already a list of firmware that were already tested and proven to work with the router?

3rd party firmware for Linksys WRT1900AC

Hello,

 

Every device will accept 3^rd party software, but choosing 3^rd party software for certain devices carries much more risk than many users can afford. I assume that you are not using your router as a device to experiment with. If this is true, you should not use 3^rd party firmware. You should also not use this firmware if you do not have the background and expertise (i.e., the experience of an engineering professional) necessary to manage the disasters that can happen. While these kinds of “hacks” can open your options for use, there is a very strong risk of “bricking” your device.
