Business Process as a Service
Business Process as a Service (BPaaS) is also called Business as a Service (BaaS). Business process as a service is less commonly known and understood and is arguably the most complex of the services based on cloud computing.
It is one of the four layers of cloud computing other three being Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a service (PaaS) and Software as a service (SaaS). Series of actions taken in steps to complete a business task that is delivered on a cloud is called business process as a service.
Here the goal is to design a business service based on the best practices followed in the industry, so that many companies will find this service useful. This service could be provided on the Internet. This service could also be combined with Software as a service (SaaS) offering or even as on-the-premise applications.
The main reason of using the paradigm of business process as a service (BPaaS) is to reduce the cost of operation and to make this service available to other companies too.
The business process as a service originated basically from the traditional concept of outsourcing of business processes. For example a company may outsource its entire IT department in order to cut the costs. BPaaS is more often deployed where existing applications and processes are antiquated and fragmented.
One of the major advantage of using the business as a service is that this model provides for add on innovation from third parties to the enterprise business processes that were always locked away behind the walls of the enterprise. End to end Business Process as a Service (BPaaS) solutions offers complex, knowledge-based work. It allows companies to deliver greater efficiencies and innovative business capabilities by combining platforms, applications, infrastructure and knowledge processes.
BPaaS makes it possible for companies to consume business outcomes by accessing business services using web-centric interfaces on multi tenancy basis and shared infrastructures without the need to own or manage the underlying resources. Business process as a service (BPaaS) is an efficient and effective way for consumer product companies to create value quickly for processes such as Vendor Managed Inventory services and trade promotions and relieves your organization from the need to support multiple dedicated resources to manage back-office processing of business travel and property management transactions, financials, procurement and employee benefits management. Business process as a service may be used for the process like contract management, billing, HR, payroll, advertising, etc.
The way business organizations work and deliver has never been more dynamic. Globalization and cloud computing technologies are all reshaping how work gets done.
For example Hewlett-Packard’s Enterprise Services business unit (which was known formerly as EDS) provides business process as a service to many other industries. HP’s AirSOA offering is a transportation system that provides SOA (service oriented architecture) based service for common functions to many other transportation industries.
Business Process as a Service (BPaaS) is a major component of all the cloud computing market with an expected market size of $113 B in 2014.
