Skype automatically close everytime it started

My Skype crashes every time I launch it and then windows-looking-for-a-solution thing appears.

Tried reinstalling and it still don’t work, also tried running it with administrative privileges but it shows the same error.

Is this a problem with Windows or Skype?

Please help I can’t work without Skype.

Dear Rodgers,

Feeling great to answer this question. Well the thing is that the problem you facing with Skype is well known problem to all. It’s because few months back Skype was attacked by a group of intruders which caused the Skype to crash each time you try to log into your Skype account. The good news is that the Skype find out the solution, how to recover from crashes and how to get all the things back to normal.

Well here I’m giving out the solution how you can fix it by yourself.

Solution for Windows users:

To fix this problem you have to remove the “shared.xml” file. The procedure is given below:

  • First of all you have to close your Skype if it’s open.
  • From the Start menu go to “RUN”
  • In the dialogue box type “%appdata%skype” and press OK.
  • Then the program file of the skype will appear in from of you.
  • You will see a file named “shared.xml”. Delete that file.

In case you did not find the file then:

  • From the Start menu of you computer go to “RUN” option
  • In the dialogue box type “control folders” and press OK.
  • There you will find a view tab, from there Select “Show Hidden Files & Folders"
  • Now do the process from the start and delete that file.
  • Again start your Skype.

Solution for Mac users:

To fix this problem you have to remove the “shared.xml” file. The procedure is given below:

  • Open the Finder option of you Mac operating system
  • Go to this folder: ~/Library/Application Support/Skype
  • You will see a file named “shared.xml.” Delete that file.
  • Again start your Skype.

*The ~ sign comprises your Home Folder.

Solution for Linux users:

To fix this problem you have to remove the “shared.xml” file. The procedure is given below:

  • From your Linux operating system.
  • Go to this folder:/home/YourLinuxUserName/.Skype
  • You will see a file named “shared.xml.” Delete that file
  • Again start your Skype.

I would suggest you to download the latest version of Skype. This was a problem of the Skype version 6.05.2011. So, try the latest one. Hope for the best.

Here are the solutions.you could try it out.

1. Many of you said u couldn't download the link cause there was a breakage in this link so I am re-posting it – If u read many of the posts concerning this Skype crashing issue it has been recommended that u install the latest version of Skype that includes adding your Facebook friends to your contact list and it works-I can now IM message AND also video chat with all my contacts.

I have tested it after the installation and it works fine-See other posts recommending this fix-I myself have windows 7-64 bit- here's the updated link (so sorry my original link had a breakage and couldn't be opened)

2. Complete Uninstall
Note:  the complete uninstall process is different from the usual or standard uninstall procedure.
 
This process will remove any traces of Skype installed in your computer, allowing you to reinstall a fresh copy of the Skype software.
 
Just back-up all important files and information that you feel is important to you before considering this option.

Last year, 17th day of November, Skype 5.7 Beta was released. Skype has been running with different ads and campaigns which causes crashes in all other versions of Skype except 5.7 Beta. These crash-causing ads vary depending on the user groups they are provided to.
 
As to this Jira report
 
 
Skype is cognizant concerning this issue “is actively working on building a solution for this issue”. But because of overwhelming obligations, this might take a while.
 
Presumptively, corrected version 5.6 is also existing but not available publicly for some reasons. It is not for the use of everyone.
