I have bought a new HP 2540 deskjet ink printer with cartridge 61 and I have barely used it. My PC is running on Windows 8.1 and whenever I send anything to the printer, a message is displayed saying ‘Incompatible Ink Cartridge’. I personally think that the cartridge is meant for the printer since it is the one recommended. Could this be a problem with my printer or the computer? If any of the two, can you please help me solve it?
Printer gives error ‘Incompatible Cartridge!’?
Hi Ronald,
Â
Since you have mentioned that the cartridges are compatible with the printer, let us go to the next step.
Â
You need to inspect the cartridges by removing and re-seating them.
Â
1 If the printer is off, first press on the Power button to turn on the printer.
2 Open the cartridge access door. You need to wait till the carriage moves to the printer center and becomes idle before resuming.
3 Press down on the cartridge to release it, and then the cartridge needs to be pulled out to be removed from that slot.
4 Touching the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles will probably lead to clogging, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.
5 Remove any protective tape that still might be on the nozzles.
6 Do not try to remove the copper electrical strip.
7 Insert the cartridge into the slot by holding it in such a way that the sides with the nozzles are facing the printer.
8 The three-colored cartridge goes in the slot on the left. The black cartridge goes in the slot on the right.
9 Push the cartridge in the front towards its slot until it sits in its position.
10 Close the cartridge access door.
