Is it true that Linux is better placed than Windows with respect to security. Windows being a proprietary software is more secure as hackers would find it more difficult to see the code and therefore exploit its weaknesses. What are the reasons then for the belief that Linux systems are more secure?

Linux or Windows: which is a more secure option?

Hello,

Both OS are based on different platform with different security features. If you only think of security, Linux is the best for you.

Linux is based on UNIX, a platform that’s open-source and good. There are many Linux distributions, developed by different developers under different Linux platform. Since Linux was released, there are only a few bugs found in it, proving its high security. If you use Linux, you’re out of any anxiety related to security. Unless you mess up everything by yourself, Linux will provide you the best security.

Linux will not allow any program run inside its system that's unauthorized, allowing you high security. Only authorized programs and apps are allowed to be installed. Also, the servers that provide updates and installers, check the program for vulnerability. Linux is open-source and hackers don't find it creditable to hack open-source OS.

On the other hand, Windows, developed and maintained by Microsoft is known to be the most vulnerable platform. It’s closed-source and most widely used, so bad guys always target their exploitation at this platform. It’s very easy to be fooled by malwares, and there’re lots of antivirus programs for this great platform to keep yourself secured.

Despite the demerits, I recommend using Windows if you’re a new PC user. If you’re advanced-minded and highly skilled on PC, Linux is recommended.
