Strange battery issue with my HP Compaq CQ 58

I am using HP Compaq CQ58-bf9WM, Laptop 15.6", 320 GB with Windows 2012 server.

Recently I have started facing one strange issue with charging. When I remove the battery from the laptop and connect to the AC power it is not at all turning on. When I keep the battery and connected to AC power as well, the computer is working and charging without any problem. So I understood that there is no problem with my charger. When I keep battery with it and not connected to Charge the battery indicated as full charging only about 40 Sec after that immediately going down to 0% after that it is automatically being turned off.

Can somebody help me figure out what is the issue? Thanks!.

Glenn, 

If you have used your battery for more than 15-18 months definitely you should replace it  because it reached its end of life.

As you say, it indicates full charge and only last some seconds without the charger, this is the sign that is dead.

Related to why without the battery the laptop does not turn on, it could be something related to the motherboard. Most of the HP laptops have a battery tester. Try to reset your  motherboard.. Just find out where the battery of the motherboard is  and remove it for a couple of  minutes. At restart you maybe  will have only to reset the date and the time.

That’s not how the laptop should work even without a battery. It should be able to work with or without the battery by simply connecting the charger to the power. Your laptop obviously has a problem with its power circuitry. By default, a laptop should be able to switch between AC power and DC power.

When the charger is connected and the battery is charging, the laptop should be able to power up while charging the battery. When the battery is full, the laptop should be able to automatically stop the charging and switch to AC power.

And even if the battery is disconnected from the battery compartment, the laptop should still be able to power up by simply connecting the charger to the power. But if this is not happening then there is a problem with its power circuit. You should bring your laptop to a qualified service center for proper servicing.
