Computer not detecting my hard drive

hello,

I have 2 harddisks in my computer.One is a Sata (160gb) hdd and other is a IDE (80gb) hdd. My computer starts normally but it not detecting my IDE harddisk.I try changing the cables and jumper but it still not working.Can any one help me this problem.

I would like to help you out with the problem you are facing. I would like to tell you that a computer usually supports only one format of hard drive (SATA, IDE). If your computer supports SATA then there is no way that it will support IDE. the same goes for the Vice-versa. So please check your Motherboards configuration because it might not support IDE. I would like to tell you that  your IDE Hard drive may be of no use if your motherboard doesn't support it. So try different ways to exchange and get a SATA hard drive.

I shall guess that your SATA (160GB) hard disk is suppose to be the primary hard disk and the IDE (80GB) hard disk is suppose to be the secondary hard disk. If so, try only using the secondary hard disk and not the primary hard disk. See if it functions properly. When you go to the startup menu of the Boot page, try to find out whether the secondary hard disk is working. If it does then there is no problem with the hard disk. Then plug up the primary hard disk and secondary hard disk together and go to the BIOS menu. In the page you should see something like Primary Hard disk and secondary hard disk chose as you need and you should be fine.
