How do I install my Windows vista without using XP on the Hard drive?

Or is that even possible?

Installing Windows vista without XP

Yes you can install windows vista to a PC even without windows XP on it, as long as your computer is compatible with Windows Vista. Here are the steps in installing Windows Vista:                                   

1. Insert your windows vista installation Disk in your DVD or CD ROM. Restart your computer.                      

 

2. You will get a message asking you to press any key if you want boot from CD to DVD. Press any key in your keyboard. (If this page does not appear while restarting the computer, you have to go to the BIOS Setup, look for boot sequence and make sure that the first BOOT device is set to CD or DVD ROM.) Then Restart the computer again.                                                                                            

 

3. A screen will appear asking you to select your Language to Install, Time and Currency Format, and Keyboard Input Method. Just fill out all these fields  and then click NEXT to continue.                                   

 

4.  The next screen will ask you if you want to Repair or Install Windows Vista. Click on Install Now.                                                                                            

 

5. You will then see a page asking you to type in the Product Key. Fill it out. You will see the Product Key on the Box of your Windows Vista Installation Disk. However, you can still install windows vista without typing in the product key. Windows will ask you to select which version of Vista you have purchased. Make sure to select the correct version. Choosing incorrect Windows Vista Version will lead to problems with activating your windows vista in the future.                                                                                

 

6. Click on the Radio Button that says "I Accept" on the "terms and conditions" page then click next.   

 

7. This will lead you to a page asking you select the type of installation that you want. Choose Custom or Advanced Install.                                                              

 

8. Select where you want windows vista to be installed. You can choose from the list of partitions. Click NEXT.                                                                                 

 

9. Windows will then start the installation process. Your computer will reboot several times during this process. Make sure not to press any key when asked to boot from CD or DVD, as this will start the entire installation process.                                                

 

10. When the installation process is done, you will then see a page asking you to setup your computer's username and password. This is what you will use whenever you log in to windows.         

 

11. Choose the desktop background that you want and then click NEXT to continue.

Installing Windows vista without XP

 

If you want to have a clean install of Windows Vista, that is installing Vista without an existing version of Windows XP on your hard drive – There is a turn-around for this one; however you will be required to install Vista twice.

 

Here’s how:

 

• Boot the Windows Vista CD and run the Windows Vista set-up.
• When asked to enter the product key, do not enter your activation key and click Next.
• You will then see an Install prompt asking if you want to enter your product key, Choose No.
• Check the box, “I have selected the edition of Windows that I purchased “, then click Next.
• Once the set-up is complete, start the Windows set-up again.
• During the set-up where you are asked for the activation key, enter the activation key this time.
• When asked to do an upgrade or Custom install, select Custom and perform a clean install.

Note: If you have WinXP on your PC but want to have a Vista clean install (removing all settings and programs), just select Custom install during the installation.
