Windows Vista SP1 Could Not Be Installed: Language Pack Not Supported

As I was trying to install Windows Vista Service Pack 1, I am having issues with the Vista language. I cannot continue with the installation since it is giving me an error, that the language pack is not supported by Windows Vista. And there are also specific languages that can be used to install Service Pack 1. How can I find these languages and how to install them? Help please.

Install Windows Service Pack

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 cannot be installed on your computer because the language of Windows Vista you have installed is not supported or you have installed a language pack that is not supported.  Windows Vista Service Pack 1 can only be installed on computers running the English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish versions of Windows Vista on computers running only those language packs.

You are receiving this error because the language pack you are trying to install on your Windows Vista is not supported by the currently installed version of Vista.

There are two packages of Win Vista Service Pack 1. The first package has 5 languages which includes:

  • English
  • French
  • German
  • Japanese
  • Spanish

The second package has 36 language versions. If you are trying to install the first package that has a language pack other than German, Spanish, French, English or Japanese, You will get the above error.

To fix the issue:

Solution 1. Install the second package of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 which includes the 36 languages.

Solution 2.

If the default language in your current Vista is English, German, Spanish, French or Japanese, you can delete other languages that are not supported. To do this:

  1. Click Start then type language in the search box.
  2. Click Regional and Language Options in the Program.
  3. Type the Administrator Password if asked.
  4. Click Install/Uninstall languages in the Display language area under Keyboard and Languages tab.
  5. Type the Administrator Password if asked.
  6. Click Remove Languages then simply click on the language packs that you want to remove and then click Next.
  7. Click Remove then Restart now for the changes to take effect.
