Error “Restore Point creation disabled by group policy”

You are getting this Error message because the Turn off Configuration Policy is probably enabled in your computer, to get rid of this problem, you need to put the value of this parameter  to “Not configured “, and you may do this in two ways:

1/ Using Group Policy Editor:

• Run the Group Policy Editor by typing “gpedit.msc” in the start menu
• Go to: Computer ConfigurationàConfigurationàAdministrative TemplatesàSystem àSystem Restore
• Set the value of “Turn off Configuration” to Not configured (if it is already set to Not Configured, set it to Enabled, then set it again to Not Configured). And then apply the changes.

2/ we can also do this change using the Registry Editor

• Run the Registry Editor by typing “regedit.exe” in the start menu
• On the left Pane, go to the following Key folder: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINEàSoftware àPoliciesàMicrosoftàWindows NT àSystemRestor
• Then, on the right, delete the one with the name “DisableConfig”

That’s odd. By default, the Windows System Restore is turned on whether you are using an administrator account or a limited account. If you are using a computer on a local area network, I don’t think the network administrator will disable this option on your computer and on other computers. Sometimes this is caused by a virus infection.

Since the affected part is a Windows component, download and install Sophos Virus Removal Tool. Once installed, wait until it finishes updating its database and then begin scanning your computer. It will take sometime because it will scan every file in your hard drive. When a virus is detected, remove it and then repeat the scan until it no longer detects a virus.

Once it is clean, try restoring your Windows System Restore. Right-click My Computer then select Properties. Check if you see the System Restore tab. If it is missing, click Start, Run then type without quotes “gpedit.msc” and then hit Enter. In the Group Policy screen, go to Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, System, and then System Restore. Double-click “Turn off Configuration”.

In Setting tab, select Not Configured then click OK. Exit the Group Policy screen then restart the computer.
