Hey ,

You can do many things to protect your PPT file and presentation material. No matter you want to password protect your presentation file? Or you want your file not to be copied any way. You should always consider the following things to protect your rights and content too:

  • In PowerPoint 2003 and later versions there’s a feature called "Information Rights Management" which allows a user to have extensive rights over the usage of the file and even to access it through PowerPoint.
  • In PowerPoint 2002 and later versions you can always enable a feature called “Password Protection” on your files. Which doesn’t even allow you to control the file from being edited but it also prevents from printing the presentations.
  • All you need to do is to Save As your file from PowerPoint 2007 and select the option “add/ modify Password” and you’re done!

That’s right. One way of protecting your PowerPoint presentation files from getting modified without your knowledge is by applying a password. This ensures that only you can open the file or files. To protect your PowerPoint files with a password, start Microsoft Office PowerPoint, open your file then click on the Office button, go to Prepare, and then click Encrypt Document. See image.

In the password field, type the password you want for your file then click OK. Please remember that in case you forgot the password, it can’t be recovered and you will not be able to open the file. You can enter up to 255 characters for your password. When you are prompted to reenter the password, enter it again then click OK.

To apply the password to your file, save your PowerPoint file. Aside from protecting your files from getting modified using a password, you can use an antivirus for additional protection using a reliable antivirus and make sure your antivirus is always up-to-date.
