The basic types of networking and inter networking devices
are Routers, Repeaters, Bridges and Gateways.
In general a Bridge is used to alienate a huge network
into smaller sectors. Their operation is held both in
physical and data link layers of same genre LANs.
A router is one which receives and passes on the packets
among different inter connected networks. Their operation
can be held in physical, data link and network layers.
They are usually activated by software

A Network redirector provides the functionality of the
presentation layer of the OSI model.
A packet filter helps to pass or block the packets on
to a network interface based on source and destination.
