LAN Card Name changed after reformatting OS

Hi. I just reformatted my new pc due to many trojans, viruses, registry problems, etc. I got this Windows XP SP3 from my dad and installed it. After which I downloaded different drivers for my main board that is a 865GDMP Pentium 4 3.2. But just lately, I noticed that my LAN controller name had been changed compared to the previous one. But still is functioning good. Can't remember the old Lan name. But for sure its not a "Via Rhine". Is this okay? Will this have an effect on the performance? Should I install and download from the net?

Hello Rexterlee,

Changing your LAN name does not in any way affect the functioning of your PC In fact changing the LAN name will ensure more security for you on the network.

However, changing this name will change the way people recognize you on the network.

Follow the steps below,

-Click on start menu, control panel and double click on system.

.

-In the dialog box click on computer name, and enter the name you wish. Click on network ID tab and the wizard will lead you through the whole process

.

-When changing the LAN name remember not to use any of your personal information such as your email passwords and so on.

-You can also follow the user manual of your router.
