Powerbook 5300CS with OS 8.1 frozen at boot up

Hi everyone,

My Power book 5300CS with OS 8.1 which I have not used in a couple of years. I started it up today and everything was ok except the date and time that was inaccurate. I fixed them and shut down the machine. I also hooked it up to my external CD ROM and external touch pad.

I only got to the boot screen when I turned it on. The boot indicator did not reach very far, then, it froze. The CD ROM and touch pad were removed and I tried again but it was still frozen at the boot screen. Do you have any idea what may have caused this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I will help to get your Mac running. According to you, the Mac was not used for years. The chances are great that your hard drive is corrupted and battery is dead. Try replacing the battery and RAM. If still it does not work, then insert the Mac OS 8 CD and boot from it and repair the start-up volume.
