Hello,

Does anyone know why MS Excel is not responding when I open a  file?  The file contains 12 worksheets which I need to submit on Monday. I restart my computer and re-opened the file but it keeps saying " MS Excel is not responding".  I also scan my computer and run virus check but still won't work. But the other files is working when I opened them. The most important file which I needed is the one that can't open and not responding. Please help. I need to get this done before Monday. Thanks a lot.

Considering the number of worksheets you have on the Excel file, and given you have a good amount of data and formulas in each of the sheets, when you open the file, it would take a good amount of time for the system to be able to load all of the file’s information into memory, especially if you have a lot of complex formulas in it. The reason Excel is saying it’s not responding is because you may have tried to click on a button or on a cell or tried to scroll or anything else that may trigger an action on the Excel window while the system is still trying to load the entirety of the file. Try to give the computer some time to load and wait for the hour glass to disappear before doing anything on the Excel window.

Hi Rosemarie,

Excel might be taking too long to respond because the processes being executed by it may be taking a lot of space in memory space. So I will advise that you close it, and before you restart the computer, go to the task manager and close all the processes that are being executed by excel. To access the processes in the task manager simply press CTRL+ALT+DEL key combination on your keyboard, click task manager and choose applications from the dialog box. Locate EXCEL.EXE and delete it from the processes. Go back restart your computer now. Open your file and see if it opens well.

Hope this helps.
