Hello community,

One of my friends sends me a large compressed Zip file. He uses Mac and I am an XP user. My main problem is with decompression in which all the zip folder have a "/" character in the file name which is accepted on Macs but illegal in Windows XP. I need to know the way to rename the files within a compressed file for correct decompression or any ideas on how to fix this problem.

Please! Help needed! Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi

The problem you are facing is that you are not able to decompress the file for this you have to follow the instruction:

Right click on the zip files and go to rename and rename the files and then compress files. This is very easy way to rename the files and by this method you can rename any file, you can easily rename zip files also. So this is not a big deal to rename the zip files try this method and your problem will solve.

One more thing if you have lot number of files to rename and zip then select all the files and rename them once all will rename with 1 2 3 present at the end of each file. So this way you can zip all files easily and rename also very quickly.

Hope this solution is good enough to help you.

Hi,

To decompress any file, you have to get a software like WinRAR, Winzip or 7-zip. With 7-zip, you can unzip or decompress any compressed file. Get 7-zip, which is an open source software. Then follow these steps:

1. Download 7-zip and install this.

2. Click the right button of your mouse on the compressed file, and then select the 7-zip & extract the file.

This is an easy task. Try this and solve the problem.
