Hello,

My computer is running with operating system Windows XP.

Every thing is fine but my disk is almost full.

Hence, I want to delete all the previous restore points in order to free some space.

Hope to do that?

Why not delete other unwanted or unnecessary programs instead of deleting the Restore Points? These Restore Points are essential especially when something happens to your computer system and you need to go back to the recent configuration when your computer is working without problems. You can also delete the contents of your Recycle Bin to free some space.

Anyway, just to answer your question, though it is not really recommended. You cannot erase a individual restore point. You need to clear all including or all except the most recent point. To do this:

1. Launch Disk Cleanup on Start> Type Disk Cleanup and click it from the result. Choose the drive that you wish to clean up and click OK.

2. Under the Disk Cleanup dialog box, click the Clean up System Files. Provide confirmation or type password if prompted. Choose the drive that you wish to clean up and click OK.

3. Click More Options tab and click Clean up from the System Restore and Shadow Copies.

4. Click Delete under the Disk Cleanup dialog box.

5. Click Delete Files and Click OK.

Dear friend your problem has two solutions:

You cannot delete any specific restore point but in windows there is an option to delete most recent restore points. Following are steps to do that:

1. If your C drive is the drive set for restore points then go to the properties of C drive.
2. Click Disk Cleanup button.
3. Now click the More options tab.
4. In the tab click the last Clean Up button in the System Restore portion.

Confirm that you want to delete and then you system will delete all but most recent System Restore points.

There is no other way to delete but you can increase or decrease Hard Disk space for System Restore points so that you can free space on your drive.

To decrease or increase System Restore point spaces on disk follow the steps below:

1. Go to Start Menu-> Programs-> Accessories-> System Tools-> System Restore
2. Now click on System Restore Settings.
3. Now select your drive and then click settings.
4. Now Decrease or Increase space for System Restore Point.

Hi, Homer.

To delete the restore points on your computer, please follow these simple instructions.

  • Click on Start>All programs>Accessories>System tools>Disc Cleanup
  • Launch that utility and click ‘More Options’ tab and click ‘system restore’
  • Now click ‘Clean up’ tab and you will get a message “Are you sure you want to delete all but the most recent restore point?”
  • Click ‘Yes’ and then click ‘Ok’.
  • Now, you will get another popup message “Are you sure you want to perform these actions”. Click ‘yes’.

Now, you have deleted all the restore points on your computer except the latest restore point.

You will now have more space in your hard disk.

Regards,

Skarbos Jay.

Hello Homer,

Since your hard drive is full, you can do couple of things that will free up your space.

1- Delete all the temporary files to free up space

2- Delete internet history, cookies and temporary files. This will also help in increasing space.

To remove the Windows XP restore points. You can follow the following steps:

3- Go to Start > All programs > Accessories > System tools > Select Disk Cleanup

4- Now initialize the utility and choose More options tab

5- Now go to System Restore > Cleanup tab

6- Click Ok to confirm the removal of all restore points safely.

This will free up your space.

Thanks

Hello Homer,

First of all clean the disk for the fast time using cleanup utility, just right click on the driver and select properties, and in general tab you will get a button disk cleanup. Now open the cleanup window and select all and click on the clean up system files and then click ok.

This will make some space in that drive. Then run disk defragment and you will understand how much space just cleaned.

After that just clean the rest manually.

Thank you,

 Riley Weaver.
