Hidden administrator account in Windows 8.1

Hi guys,

My old computer has a hidden Administrator account which can be seen if I boot in Safe Mode. I'm not sure why but it doesn't even have a password, making my computer exposed. I want to know if I can put a Administrator account in Windows 8.1? If so, how can I put or change the password on it? I searched on the Control Panel and then go to Manage User Accounts but I did not see anything from there, just my own user account. Can someone provide a step-by-step instruction on this? Many thanks.

Yes, there is such account. However, by default it id disabled and hence you are not able to see it. If you want to see it then in that case you will be required to run cmd.exe command  the administrator mode and then you need to type following commands to activate and deactivate.

  1. For activating: "net user Administrator /active:yes" confirm by pressing enter.
  2. For deactivating: "net user Administrator /active:no" confirm by pressing enter.

That user account you are referring to is the built-in “Administrator” account. This account is required so you can create your own user account after installing the Microsoft Windows operating system. After creating your first user account, this “Administrator” account is automatically hidden on the login screen. Normally, like in Windows XP, it appears when you start the computer in Safe Mode.

But when booting normally, you will not see it on the login screen. But if you want, this “Administrator” account can be unhidden or made visible. To unhide it, press the Windows key + R to bring up the “Run” dialog then type without quotes “cmd” then hit Enter. In the command prompt window, type the following command then hit Enter:

net user administrator /active:yes

After this, close the command prompt and restart the computer. Now, the built-in “Administrator” account should now appear on the login screen.
