Hello Everyone,

I just purchased Nero 9 reloaded last week and I am running it on my laptop using windows 7, 64 bit version. I get a fatal error when trying to start the application by double clicking StartSmart. This is how I got it installed: I turned off User Access Control and uninstalled Nero 7. Then I ran the general clean tool to remove all the remnants of the previous installations. I even emptied my recycle bin and deleted temporary files. Now I reboot the machine and installed the Nero 9 update EXE. It initially installed with the trial version key, ran the Nero Control Centre 4 and added my Nero 9 Reloaded serial number and removed the trial version. Now when I double click the StartSmart, I receive this Fatal Error. I decided to see if I could get Nero ShowTime to work and tried to playback a DVD. This gives the additional info that this is not a valid DVD!!! The same disk that worked with Nero 7 becomes invalid overnight? Help! I am at my wits end. I welcome everyone with an idea to resolve this problem with a huge ‘Thank you’. Regards.

FATAL ERROR: Nero StratSmart cannot run! Corrupted installation or invalid license!

The disc or folder you have selected does not contain a valid DVDVideo, S-VCD, or VCD structure.

Please try plying files instead of folder: Either select “Files…" after clicking “Play” button in main window or use “Local Media” tab in playlist window.

As I check the system specifications of Nero 9, it sounds like you really won’t be able to use it on your computer as smooth as other applications do though Microsoft Windows 7 is supported. For users who are not yet aware of its specifications and may also be experiencing the same problem, Nero 9 supports Windows XP Service Pack 2 and higher, Windows XP Media Center 2005 Service Pack 2, Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and higher, and Windows 7.

In case you have 64-bit Windows XP or Windows Vista, you can still use Nero 9 but it must be under 32-bit emulation mode. If you don’t run it in this mode, you might encounter an error. The same with 64-bit Windows XP and Windows Vista, 64-bit Windows 7 will also run it as 32-bit application though I’m not sure why the error happens.

Most Nero 9 users have no problems using it on 64-bit Windows 7 but there are still some Windows 7 64-bit users who are having problems running it so it is really not the same for all Windows 7 users. Make sure your computer is installed with only one version of Nero. Any old versions should be removed before installing Nero 9.

Try activating the Desktop Gadgets. Press CTRL + ALT + DEL or CTRL + SHIFT + ESC to display Windows Task Manager. Select Processes tab and find “sidebar.exe”. Click End Process to terminate the program. Click Yes to confirm the task. Open Windows Explorer and go to “C:Program Files (x86)Windows Sidebar”. Find the file “sidebar.exe” and double-click it.

After that, right-click anywhere on your desktop and select Gadgets. Lastly, double-click on your Nero gadgets to add them to your desktop.
