Hi,

I received an error message while installing Microsoft Office 2003 on my laptop running with Windows Vista Ultimate OS.

The screenshot of the error message is as under. It is indicating failure of the deleting registry key or something like that.

Have you any idea for the error?

How can I get a remedy of this issue?

Error 1404. Setup cannot delete the registry key SoftwareClasses.tif. Verify that you have sufficient permission to access the registry or contact your Information Technology department for assistance.

Hi Jonathan,

The reason of this error is when your computer is on multiple accounts, the computer prevents other account to give changes or install/uninstall programs in the program unless you’re in the administrator account.

If you want to install programs in a multiple account computer, go to administrator account then install.

If the error still shows up, follow the following steps: (In the Administrator Account)

  • Click Start > Control Panel > Classic View (on the right side panel)
  • Go to Administrative Tools/Services
  • Turn permissions off for all.
