The “error 0x3: patch download unavailable” happens when the patch program is not able to connect properly to the update server. Here are some reasons and solutions for Error 0x3 when opening Grand Chase:

  1. If the computer is not connected to the internet, or if IE is on “Work Offline” mode. Please make sure that your connection to the internet is good, and that IE is online.
  2. If the patch client is corrupted thus you must try to purchase it and then reinstall the game legally.
  3. If your connection is being blocked by a firewall, your router, or by any other internet monitoring software.  Blocking the connection will interfere with the internet connection and will definitely cause a problem with online gaming.

It seems that the problem you are having is not an isolated one and there are a huge number of users who are also having the same problem. But fortunately, there is one user who suggested a possible fix on the patch problem. First thing to do is to configure the game to run in compatibility mode. To do this, right-click on the Grand Chase icon then select Properties. Select Compatibility tab and then check “Run this program in compatibility mode for” under “Compatibility mode”. Select “Windows NT 4.0 [Service Pack 5]”, click Apply then OK.

Next step, click Start, Control Panel, Network and Internet Connections, and then Network Connections. Right-click on the network connection you use to connect to the internet and then select Properties. Go to Networking tab, select Internet Protocol [TCP/IP] then select Properties. Under DNS, select “Use the following DNS server addresses” and then enter these on their respective fields:

  • Preferred DNS server: 208.67.222.222
  • Alternate DNS server: 208.67.220.220

These settings are for computers running on Windows XP and lower. For Windows Vista and Windows 7, go to these locations: Network Sharing Center, Change Adapter Settings, Current Network Connection, Properties, IPV4, and then apply the DNS servers below:

  • Preferred DNS server: 220.67.220.220
  • Alternate DNS server: 208.67.222.222
