Hello friends,

I have been using adobe reader for the last two months now and it is running totally trouble free for me. But a few days back an update notification of adobe reader started popping up each time I start my system. At first I was ignoring it but later I took it seriously to avoid this notification in future.

I thought may be the updated version be more efficient and secure so I started the updating process.

When I began to update adobe reader, the installation started successfully but suddenly it stopped resulting in an error message. 50 % of the updating was done successfully. The screenshot of the error message is attached below:

Update Failed

Adobe Reader Updater

Update failed

Error 1402.Could not open key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\

Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\OptionalComponents\IMAIL. Verify that

you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.

I started the updating process again but again it was stuck at 50 %. I then uninstalled the reader and then installed it again. Then I started the installation process but still the same error appeared on the screen. Now it is not allowing me to uninstall the application either. It is not permitting me to open the specific registry key. I can’t understand why.

Has anyone else also encountered this problem? If yes please help me.

Your suggestions and views will be highly appreciated.

Regards

Godelle

Hi Godelle:

This problem is indeed headache especially to photo imaging matter.

I need to ask if your adobe reader application is Genuine?

If yes, that's a real headache on you part 'cause it causes you disturbance by babysitting your unit, delays your work. The only problem I see here is your internet connection. Verufy that sufficient access, as it says on the error message.

Or, maybe, you're already a victim of counterfeiting. Counterfeiting happens when you updates a certain application. Eventually it removes the Genuine and replaced it with a Not Genuine one. So, think first before you click that update button.

Or, you maybe running a Trial Version of Adobe Reader.

I hope this could help you rejuvenate your Adobe Reader.

Hallo Bessie,

The reason you are unable to perform the Adobe Reader update could be the user account control on your computer (UAC). It could be blocking the update from proceeding successfully. Therefore you will need to follow the procedure below and see if it will bypass the issue:

  • First, you will need to ensure that you are running  Adobe Reader as the Administrator - you will need to use “Run as Administrator” context menu option on the Adobe desktop icon, for instance;
  • Choose Help, and then Check for Updates
  • After that you will need to follow the instructions: the update should succeed now.
  • Have fun!
