Can anyone please tell me how can I make the zip check box remain un-checked by default on Lotus Notes 8.5? Every time I attach a file it zips by default.

Have you installed any kind of plug-in that would manage your attachments? If yes, you should remove those in order to make things work again. You can also create a new mail template that will have the box unchecked and that should work.

Also, make sure you don't have any other compression tools installed as they could automatically compress your files.
