Hi!
I tried connecting a second router to a ziggo modem because the signal can't reach some parts of my house but when I connect my laptop, it can't obtain an IP address from the router.
I also tried a different laptop and 2 smartphones because I thought that the laptop was the problem, but they all have the same issue.
The second router is connected to the 1st router through a LAN cable, and I'm using a Linksys WRT160NL.

In order to operate two or more routers (WiFi) together to increase the range, you must connect them in a repeater mode.
So, firstly you have to check whether your routers are compatible to be connected and operated in a repeater mode or not.
Consult the guide/manual of your devices to check them to be able to operate in repeater mode.
For help regarding connection in repeater mode visit this link:

Hi Sharlene,
You can set the second router as a Client Bridge.
I am not sure if the version of your router’s firmware has this but if you do then it’s a good start.
By the way, dd-wrt firmware has this function so if the function is not present then you may want to go for this firmware.
So in order for your second router to be unified with the first one you have to:
Note: All instructions are done on the routers User Interface.
-
Set Wireless Mode of the second router to “Client Bridge” mode.
-
Wireless Network Mode should be “Mixed”
-
Network Name (SSID) of the second router should be identical with the first one.
-
Set both router security modes to WPA2 (WPA2 Personal or WPA2-PSK (AES))
-
WPA Algorithm should be AES.
-
Enter Shared Key. This key (if you haven’t changed it), is written on the side or bottom of the device.
-
Set Key renewal to 0 to avoid disconnection from the first router.
-
IP Addresses of both routers should not be the same.
Once done try to connect and test the connection.
Hope this helps!
