I'm using windows XP service pack 2 from 2006. Now I want to update it. My Software Distribution folder might have become corrupted or previous files might interfere with the installation of SP3.

How can I install windows XP service pack 3?  Please give me a perfect solution.

You can just go to your CD drive and then from there you can run the installation program which will guide you step by step on all the process of window installation. If you don't want to remove your previous files then just make of copy of your new window and it will work fine you can also use the repair tool for this purpose.

If you need to install the new window with no previous data then you can make a format to your drive and then you can implement you new window, But in case you don't want to delete your previous files then you can just go to install menu and then you can simply install your new window. Note that there are almost three options available in window installation either you can install a new  copy or you can repair a copy or just copy window files to your drives you can choose one which best suites you and i am sure that your previous data will be not infected by the new installation.
