Why Is My Canon Printer Offline?

Before moving on to the solution of this problem, please check that you have the printer’s cable connected to your computer. Also, if the printed is remotely connected, please check your WiFi connection. After you have performed these checks, follow the steps below.

1. The printer must be offline manually. You can set it back online through the control panel.
2. Make sure that the printer’s driver is rightly configured. You can do it as follows.
a. Go to ‘printers’ folder of the control panel. Search for your printer.
b. Right-click and open the properties of your printer. Click on a tab named ‘Ports.’
c. Check that a valid USB port is assigned with your printer.

Why Is My Canon Printer Offline?

You can see that message, “Printer is offline”, when you are trying to print wirelessly or using Wi-Fi. There are many reasons why this happens. One cause is if the computer and access point of the router have lost connection. When this happens, simply restart your computer to restore the connection. Another reason is if the printer cannot communicate with the router where your computer is connected to.

In this case, restart the router and the printer. Another possible cause is if the printer is set offline. To set it back online, click “Start”, “Control Panel”, “Printers and Other Hardware”, then “Printers and Faxes”. Right-click your printer then select “Use Printer Online”. That should restore the printer back online.

Another possible cause why the printer is offline is if the printer is not set as the default printer. In this case, go back to “Printers and Faxes” in the Control Panel, right-click your printer and select “Set as Default Printer”. After this, you should see a checkmark beside the printer.
