Samsung's Vice Chairman Kwon Oh-hyun will be replacing Choi Gee-Sung as CEO. Other top executives will remain on their positions so does this mean Choi Gee-Sung resigned? Can you consider Samsung as a copycat to Apple's move?
Why did Samsung’s CEO Choi Gee-Sung resign?
Hello Lara,
Samsung has replaced its chief executive officer as it steps up efforts to seek new drivers for growth, even as they become global leaders in electronic sales with Choi Gee-sung at the helm. Mr. Choi is replaced by Kwon Oh Hyun who is the Head of the components division. He is placed to expanding the company's chip business as surging popularity of smartphones and tab's has driven a boom in demand for memory chips. Samsung say's that Mr. Kwon has led Samsung's chips and flat panel businesses in the past.
But this does not means any copycat activities with apple and Samsung, it was just a co-incidence. And Samsung says that their former CEO won't resign from the service. He will continue his seat on the board and will take over responsibility for Samsung group's Corporate strategy office, focusing on developing the new business for the group's 81 affiliates.
So Mr. Choi will not resign from the Samsung.
I hope you get the answer.
