Hi NIlo,

SATA is the best because it's the new slot compare IDE that is old slot. SATA has more storage compare to the old one which is very low storage. Harddisk Slot depends on the Motherboard that you usned if it's quite old board then im sure your harddisk is an IDE slot, for example you have a Pentium 3 computer then it's gonna have IDE Harddisk slot. IDE Slot has many pins compare to the SATA which look like a USB port to the harddisk. The Solution is to look at your Harddisk, you should open your CPU in order you to see what's inside your CPU, what the harddisk look like. You can also bring your CPU to the computer store next time just to make sure. I also suggest to upgrade your unit or buy a new CPU to be updated on your application games etc. You can also search online for this.

Thanks,

Hello,

Sata Hard disk is a new type hard disk. It Identity is that it has a thin connector like image below.

IDE Hard disk is an old hard disk and its main identity that it has a fate ribbon type connector, image is below.

Your motherboard defines that what hard disk you want, because if motherboard have only one Sata or IDE socket then you want only one fix type of hard disk fit. If you have both types of socket on your motherboard then you can fit either Sata or IDE. Sata hard disk is new type and has more speed and come with low price than IDE.

SATA stands for Serial Advanced Technology Attachment which is a device to store any files in computer for example media files, software programs, word/excel documents etc.

IDE is an abbreviation of Integrated Development Environment which is a standard electronic interface between storage devices on disks of the computer and data paths/bus of a computer motherboard.

In my opinion, SATA disk is better than IDE disk. The reasons are as follows.

1. SATA hard disk has a faster data transfer rate. IDE is slower than SATA that the fastest IDE drive has a speed of 133MB/s whereas the standard SATA drive has a speed of 150MB/s. The newer SATA II drive even has a double rate of 300MB/s.  The transfer rate is crucial when some graphics/video/sound files which size could be very large are transferring.

2. SATA drives have a larger storage than IDE drives.  Typically IDE drives have maximum 500MB storage while SATA drives can store 2GB, that is about four times storage.

There are not too much physical difference between two drives, however, the connections are quite different. IDE drives use ribbon cable which is a flat grayish cable with 40pins connector where SATA drives use a smaller 7pins cable which is usually red in color.

SATA drives also have some other advantages e.g. 16MB cache, high-density platters, new design, less heat, low power consumption.
